Winter & Summer Experiences

Enjoying the Outdoors in the Winter

Downhill Skiing

America’s first destination ski resort offers visitors the choice of two mountains, Bald  Mountain, also known as Baldy and Dollar Mountain. Baldy features 100+ unique  runs and 12 chairlifts that provide access to more than 2,000 acres of skiable terrain.  This mountain features no flats, making it nothing but downhill fun. Kids can enjoy  themed Adventure Trails with 30 acres of gladed terrain geared for skiers of all  abilities.

Heli Skiing

With access to 750,000 acres of powder skiing and pick-ups available from the top of  Baldy, you can get a few warm up runs on familiar terrain before flying directly to the  untouched slopes of the Idaho backcountry.

Nordic Skiing & Snowshoeing

The area’s Nordic trails are hard to beat. With 200+ kms of groomed trails rolling out  of our backdoor, Nordic skiers can get in a quick ski in just a couple of hours. Our  favorite trails are located 25 minutes north of Ketchum near Galena Lodge where  exceptional views are the norm. The Boulder Mountains tower to the East of the  Harriman Trail—a perfectly groomed, winding track that takes you alongside the Big  Wood River. Make your way back to the Galena Lodge to replenish depleted calories  by enjoying a Ginger Sesame Bowl, Elk Burger, or one of their mouth-watering  gourmet sandwiches.

Ice Skating

The Sun Valley ice rink is a captivating year-round oasis where skaters glide under  the open sky, surrounded by the majestic beauty of the surrounding mountains.

Snowmobiling

There are many miles of groomed snowmobile trails and off-trail riding to be found  throughout the region. The Wood River Recreation Area, three miles west of Hailey and the Baker Creek  area, ten miles north of Ketchum, offer groomed trail and off-trail riding in  designated areas. Information for these areas is available here. In the Smiley Creek and Stanley areas north of Sun Valley, you will find 170 miles of  groomed trails, as well as fabulous off-trail riding. Guided trips, snowmobile rentals  are available at Smiley Creek Lodge. The Fairfield area southwest of Hailey has 200 miles of trails and more off-trail riding options.
